Padang Railway Engineering Centre Evaluated Performance of 81 Railway Crossing Guards in West Sumatra

Padang - In an effort to reduce the number of accidents and focus on safety, the Class II Padang Railway Engineering Centre has conducted an evaluation and mentoring of 81 level crossing guards (PJL) under the responsibility of BTP Padang.

BTP Padang Chief Endang Setiawan said there was no tolerance when it came to the safety of road users at level crossings, as the number of accidents at level crossings in West Sumatra was still high.

There is no tolerance when it comes to public safety at level crossings. All existing problems and personal problems must be put aside first when carrying out duties as PJL,' he said in a statement.

By conducting performance evaluations and also providing more in-depth guidance to PJLs spread across Padang Pariaman Regency and Padang City, it is hoped that PJLs will become more responsible for their duties.

We will also impose strict sanctions if there are PJLs who are negligent in carrying out their duties, because once again, there is no tolerance for safety at level crossings," he added.

For the record, before being assigned as PJL under the responsibility of BTP Padang, they had undergone community empowerment training organised by PPI Madiun as a credible agency. PJL also underwent independent training and was tested directly by the DJKA testing centre team. Regular monitoring and evaluation was then carried out to ensure that PJL was working well.

With the provision of various trainings, both material and practical, PJL should be able to carry out its duties properly by looking at the standard operating procedures that have been given," concluded the manager.
