Rising Together with Regional Governments for the Development of Railways in West Sumatra

Padang – The Railway Engineering Center Class II Padang (Balai Teknik Perkeretaapian Kelas II Padang), which operates under the Directorate General of Railways, Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, held a meeting with various city and regional governments to discuss the development of railway tracks in West Sumatra.

The meeting was attended by the Head of the Transportation Department of West Sumatra Province, the Heads of the Transportation Departments of West Pasaman, Padang Pariaman Regency, the Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency of West Sumatra, the Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency of West Pasaman, Agam Regency, Padang Pariaman Regency, Pariaman City and the Operations Manager of PT KAI (Persero) Divre II West Sumatra.

During the meeting, Hendrialdi, the head of BTP Padang, outlined various short, medium and long term programmes and challenges faced by BTP Padang in developing the railway network in West Sumatra. One of the key issues discussed was the reactivation of the Naras-Sungai Limau railway line, which is already being used by the local community. Further studies are planned for the development of this line, which will be carried out as soon as possible.

"In addition to conducting studies, we want all stakeholders to participate in the development of the railway. BTP Padang cannot work alone without the support of various parties," said Hendrialdi.

In the same session, the Head of the Transportation Department of West Sumatra, Dedy Diantolany, expressed his support for the railway development program in West Sumatra. He emphasized that this initiative is part of the regional government's commitment to improving transportation infrastructure, which will ultimately contribute to economic growth, enhance connectivity, and provide easier access to transportation for the public.

This support was also echoed by the railway operator PT KAI (Persero) Divre II West Sumatra, which has submitted a proposal for additional facilities that are expected to be met by the end of 2024.

This event is expected to foster greater collaboration between BTP Padang and relevant stakeholders in realizing the development of the railway sector in West Sumatra.
