Progress of Jember-Kalisat railway line improvement reaches 20 percent
Surabaya - As one of the efforts to improve the quality of railway travel in Jember Regency and surrounding areas, the Surabaya Class I Railway Engineering Centre is carrying out work in the form of railway line upgrading on the crossing between Jember Railway Station and Kalisat Railway Station. As of Tuesday, 25 June 2024, the progress of the railway line upgrade has reached 20% of the total project.
The line from Jember Station to Kalisat Station has a length of 17,2 kilometers (km'sp). The upgrading of the railway line also includes the upgrading of the stations, namely Jember Station, Arjasa Station, Kotok Station and Kalisat Station.
As part of this work, in addition to upgrading 4 stations, BTP Surabaya also constructed guard posts at several direct crossing lines (JPL). In addition, BTP Surabaya is also committed to improving the safety of both train passengers and motorists passing through the JPL.
In the 4th week of June 2024, BTP Surabaya will complete the process of replacing rails from R42 type rails to R54 type rails at several points, one of which crosses JPL 153 at Jl. Nusa Indah, Patrang, Jember, and JPL 157 at Jl. Dr. Soebandi, Patrang, Jember, resulting in the temporary closure of both roads. Due to this activity, BTP Surabaya apologizes for the inconvenience caused to passing road users due to the road closure for the rail iron replacement.
Over the past few days, BTP Surabaya has been waiting for the soil compaction process to be completed. Replacing the rails with a wider gauge will also improve the comfort of train travel, as the rails will be completely welded with thermite to eliminate shaking and noise.
The upgrading of the railway line between Jember station and Kalisat, which will begin in 2023, will not only improve the comfort of train travel but also increase the capacity of the line, considering that the railway line in the eastern region of East Java has never been touched by significant development. BTP Surabaya is upgrading this crossing to the same standards as other lines that have been built, such as the Surabaya-Jakarta double line and lines in other major cities. It is hoped that this work can be extended to the eastern end of the island of Java.
The Surabaya Class I Railway Engineering Centre (BTP Surabaya) is a working unit under the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation, which is tasked with carrying out the improvement, development, management, maintenance, utilization of railway infrastructure, and supervision of the implementation of facilities and railway safety, including the implementation of railway development programs in East Java and other eastern regions of Indonesia.
