South Sumatra LRT Holds Mobile Legends Competition, Encourages Millennials to Use Public Transportation

Palembang, 8 March 2024 - The South Sumatra Light Railway Management Center, as the manager of the South Sumatra LRT (Light Rail Transit), held a Mobile Legends competition at the LRT Dishub Station in an effort to cater to the millennial generation's interest in e-sports. Called "LRT South Sumatra Mobile Legends Competition,"  Mobile Legends players competed fiercely for a prize of Rp. 5 million.

The activity, which started from Thursday to Saturday (7-9 March 2024), is part of LRT South Sumatra's strategy to encourage millennials to use public transportation. Each participant is required to register with an LRT train ticket as a condition to participate in the competition.

Aditya Yunianto, Head of Facilities and Infrastructure Utilization Section, expressed his delight at the enthusiasm of the participants for this event. "We are very happy to see the positive response from the younger generation to this Mobile Legends competition. This shows that we are on the right track in our efforts to increase the use of LRT by the people of South Sumatra," he said.

Based on the latest data, 29 teams of Mobile Legends players and fans from various regions in South Sumatra participated in the Mobile Legends competition. "There are several rounds that the participants will go through. Starting from the knockout phase, R-16, quarterfinals, semifinals to the finals," he said.

One of the participants who took part in the activity was Rendy from Poltektrans SDP Palembang. He came with 4 of his friends who are members of the Bumi Sriwijaya team. According to him, this activity needs to be done regularly to improve the soft skills of the millennial generation. "Not only mobile legends, but also free fire or others," he said when meeting on Thursday, 7 March 2024, at the Dishub LRT station.

Despite losing and not being able to continue to the next phase, Rendy will not give up. He intends to try again if the opportunity arises. “I am very happy to hold activities like this. Moreover, it is done at the station, which can encourage young people to use public transportation. I myself and my friends took the LRT here,” he said.

It is hoped that with the Mobile Legends competition and a series of other interesting activities, South Sumatra LRT can increasingly become the first choice for millennials in making daily trips, and make a positive contribution to reducing congestion and air pollution in the city of Palembang in particular, and South Sumatra at large.
