Jakarta Class I BTP Visits South Sumatra LRT Station, Provides Input on Intermodal Transportation Integration

Class I Jakarta Railway Engineering Center (BTP) conducted a working visit to the South Sumatra Light Rail Transit (LRT) Station on Saturday, 11 May 2024. This visit is part of efforts to improve and develop a more integrated transportation system in Indonesia, particularly in the South Sumatra region. During the visit, BTP Class I Jakarta also provided several important inputs related to integration between transportation modes.

This visit was attended by 4 BTP Class I Jakarta Public Relations personnel. BTP Class I Jakarta Public Relations Officer Shofwatinida explained that this visit aims to see first-hand the operation of the South Sumatra LRT and identify potential improvements and integration with other transportation modes in the region.

"Integrating different modes of transportation is critical for community mobility. With an integrated transportation system, we can reduce congestion, increase efficiency, and, of course, provide more comfort for users," he said.

During the visit, the BTP Class I Jakarta team conducted a thorough inspection of the facilities at the South Sumatra LRT station, from platforms and waiting rooms to ticketing and security systems. They also conducted a trial ride on the South Sumatra LRT to experience first-hand the daily passenger experience. On this occasion, they also observed the interchanges with other modes of transport, such as buses, angkot, and feeders.

One of the important inputs provided by BTP Class I Jakarta was the need to improve connectivity between LRT stations and other land transport modes. Rusdi, the public relations team of BTP Class I Jakarta, emphasized the importance of adding facilities such as pedestrian bridges, adequate drop-off and pick-up areas, and clear directional signs to facilitate the transfer of passengers from one mode to another. "Passengers need to be able to transfer easily and comfortably. Supporting facilities such as safe footbridges and clear access are needed," he added.

Meanwhile, Fajar Anugrah Tumanggor, Public Relations Officer of the South Sumatra Light Railway Management Center, welcomed the input and recommendations of BTP Class I Jakarta. According to him, the integration of transport modes is one of the company's main focuses in its efforts to improve services to the community. "We are grateful for the visit and input from BTP Class I Jakarta. This will be our evaluation material to further improve and enhance the LRT services in South Sumatra," he said.

In a discussion held after the inspection, both parties agreed to work more closely together to develop a more integrated transportation system. Concrete steps planned include the formation of a joint team to conduct a more in-depth study of integration needs and the implementation of information technology to speed up the process of transferring between modes of transportation.

This visit is part of the government's efforts to realize a modern and efficient national transportation system. With the synergy between various parties, it is hoped that transportation in Indonesia, especially in South Sumatra, can be better and able to meet the growing needs of the community.

The seriousness of BTP Class I Jakarta in paying attention to the integration between transportation modes is expected to be an example for other regions in developing a better and more integrated transportation system.
