MAYOR OF PALEMBANG GIVES FULL SUPPORT TO SOUTH SUMATRA LRT

Since the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya launched the Return to Public Transport Movement, public interest in using public transportation has increased. In order to maximize what has been planned, the Head of the South Sumatra Light Railroad Management Center (BPKARSS), Prih Galih, held a meeting with the Mayor of Palembang, H. Harnojoyo, at the Mayor's residence Tuesday (15/03). The meeting was also attended by officials from the BPKARSS and Palembang City.

"Currently, the number of LRT users has increased from 5,200 to 6,250 this March," said Prih Galih. BPKARSS, the manager of the South Sumatra LRT, continues to invite the public to continue using the South Sumatra LRT as daily transportation. The increased number of passengers can also increase income for LRT itself and the local government through advertising and taxes. In addition, with the issuance of the Circular Letter of the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 25 of 2022 regarding the regulation of a maximum 100% passenger capacity for mass transportation modes located in areas with PPKM Level 2, the South Sumatra LRT has removed the social distancing sticker on the LRT train.

The Palembang local government strongly supports the spirit of BPKRSS. The use of public transportation will have a big impact on the city of Palembang. It is not only a question of income but also can unravel the congestion at several busy points in the city of Palembang.
