Implementation of the Pioneer Railway Transportation Policy
Thursday (2/3), The Director of Railway Traffic and Transportation stood in for the Director General of Railways at the Media Briefing/Press Background event centered around the theme of "Pioneering the Implementation of Railway Transportation Policy."
Pioneer Railway Transport is a government-funded rail transportation provider aimed at offering railway services to the public in areas that are not commercially viable. It operates within specified timeframes and serves new or existing areas with railway infrastructure. The primary objective of pioneer transportation is to deliver economy class train services to the public, adhering to minimum service standards, and ensuring affordability, reliability, comfort, and safety for passengers.
Currently, there are six Pioneer Railway Transports operating in different regions. These include the Cut Meutia Train in Aceh, the Datuk Blambangan Train in Medan, the Anai Valley Train in Padang, the South Sumatra LRT in Palembang, the Bathara Kresna Train in Solo, and the Makassar-Parepare Train in Makassar. Some pioneer trains have transitioned into Public Service Obligation (PSO) trains. For instance, the Jenggala train, which operated between Surabaya Kota and Mojokerto, became a PSO train in 2019. Similarly, the Siliwangi train, running from Cipatat to Sukabumi, became a PSO train in 2019, and the Minangkabau Ekspress train, connecting Minangkabau International Airport in Padang to Pulau Aje, became a PSO train in 2023.
