Palembang –  On Thursday, 14 November 2024, the South Sumatra Light Rail Transit (LRT) Management Office held a socialization event for the feeder service on Corridor 7 via LRT Bumi Sriwijaya Station at the 20 Ilir Urban Village Office (Kelurahan) in Palembang. The event aimed to introduce the feeder service as part of the public transport integration in Palembang and to inform the public about the benefits and usage of the service.

As a speaker, Mr. Aditya Yunianto, Head of the Facilities and Infrastructure Utilization Section of the South Sumatra LRT Management Office, presented the importance of the feeder service in improving connectivity between the community and the LRT stations. Aditya explained that Corridor 7 is one of the strategic routes designed to reach areas with high population density and limited access to transportation.

"The feeder on Corridor 7 via the Bumi Sriwijaya LRT station will make it easier for people, especially those living around 20 Ilir and the surrounding areas, to connect directly to the LRT service. This is part of our efforts to make public transport more inclusive, efficient, and comfortable," said Aditya.

He also explained the technical operations of the feeder service, including routes, schedules, and ticketing integration with the LRT services. According to him, the feeder service is designed to minimize passenger waiting time by synchronizing schedules with LRT train departures and arrivals.

In addition to representatives from the South Sumatra LRT Management Office, other stakeholders attended the event, including representatives from the Palembang City Transportation Agency, the South Sumatra Regional Land Transport Management Office, and PT Transportasi Global Mandiri. The head of Plaju Darat Village, Plaju Subdistrict, was also present to express his support for efforts to improve public transportation accessibility in Palembang.

In his speech, a Palembang City Transportation Agency representative emphasized the importance of collaboration among the government, transportation operators, and the general public in developing a sustainable transportation ecosystem.

"The presence of this feeder service is an important step forward in meeting the transportation needs of the public. However, its success depends not only on the organizers but also on the active participation of the community in using the service," said the representative of the Transportation Agency.

The event included not only presentations from the speakers but also an interactive discussion with residents. The public had the opportunity to ask questions directly to the speakers about various aspects of the feeder service, such as fares, accessibility for people with disabilities, and passenger safety.

Several residents expressed their appreciation for the initiative but also provided feedback on possible additional routes to extend the service to other residential areas. Aditya responded positively to the suggestions and said the team would continue to evaluate routes based on community needs.

"Community feedback is very important to us. We will continue to make adjustments to ensure that this feeder service truly meets the mobility needs of residents," said Aditya.

In his speech, the head of Ilir Village 20 expressed his hope that the feeder and LRT services would help reduce the public's dependence on private vehicles, thereby reducing traffic congestion and air pollution in Palembang. He also encouraged residents to use public transportation as part of their daily lifestyle.

"With the feeder on Corridor 7, we hope that people in the 20 Ilir area will find it easier to access the LRT service. This is an opportunity for all of us to support the development of greener and more efficient transportation," said the Village Chief.

The socialization event concluded with a short simulation on how to use the feeder service, from purchasing tickets to integrating with LRT tickets. This simulation aimed to give the public a clearer understanding of the benefits of the feeder service.

Through this socialization activity, it is hoped that the community will better understand the importance of public transport integration and support the sustainability of the LRT feeder service. With cooperation between the government, operators, and the public, Palembang can continue to move forward in developing a modern and sustainable transportation system.
