The operation of the Matraman Shelter Station

Matraman Station is a station built by the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) Ministry of Transportation from 2016 – 2022. This station is located at KM 1+285 Cross of Manggarai-Matraman-Jatinegara which is part of the DDT (Double Double Track) Manggarai – Cikarang mega project .

Matraman Station has the potential to increase the mobility and accessibility of KRL users in the Matraman, Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, Manggarai areas.

Before operating, this station has gone through various technical preparations as well as checking the completeness of service and security facilities to support the convenience and comfort of KRL users inside the station. Preparation for the operation of the Matraman Station includes trials of KRL trips, trials of signaling systems and trials of other operational infrastructure for train travel.

In early June 2022 the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation has operated the Matraman Station as an alternative passenger station. After SO 5 of the Mnaggarai Station, the Matraman shelter station was also used to break down the density of passengers at Manggarai Station after the KRL route change. However, basically, this station is ready to operate, not to break up the density at the Manggarai station after SO 5. This is one of the benefits or positive impacts of operating the Matraman station.

In this case, the Head of the Jakarta and Banten Regional Railway Engineering Center, Rode Paulus said "We have carried out a series of preparatory activities for the operation of the Matraman Station, early this June we collaborated with a number of related stakeholders including PT. KAI Commuter, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to PT. Transjakarta has carried out joint inspection activities to ensure that all facilities within the station can be used and function properly, starting from escalators, lifts, toilets, fire extinguishers (APAR) to fire alarm systems, lightning rods and also CCTV can be used to ensure safety inside the Station. A few days later, we continued with the Minimum Service Standards (SPM) inspection by the Directorate of Railway Traffic and Transportation in accordance with the mandate of the Minister of Transportation Regulation Number PM 68 of 2019 concerning Minimum Service Standards with good inspection results, ". ¹

As a new station, of course the Directorate General of Railways will carry out intensive monitoring to minimize problems that arise, access to the movement of passengers within the station which is provided from stairs, lifts and escalators will always be a concern, for that all facilities in the station are trying to function properly and can be used optimally.

This station was made with the concept of a shelter (stop) because it only serves passengers going up and down and does not make arrangements for train travel like Jatinegara and Manggarai Stations. The station has two railway lines with one platform 250 meters long and 5 meters wide. The Matraman Station building consists of 2 floors with a building area of 3,010 square meters and an area of 2,625 square meters. Matraman Station is targeted to be able to serve KRL Commuter Line passengers up to 10 thousand passengers per day. This station is also connected to other modes of transportation such as the Transjakarta Ancol corridor, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, and Senen.

In addition, this station is friendly for persons with disabilities because it has been equipped with facilities that can facilitate the mobility of persons with disabilities, such as lifts and special lanes.

At the inauguration, the Minister of Transportation also tried coffee and snacks from MSME players at the Matraman Station. This is full support for MSME players everywhere so they can take advantage of public space as a means of selling merchandise for MSME players.

The Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi said that the presence of transportation infrastructure also supports progress in other sectors such as tourism and SMEs. 30% of the commercial area has been allocated at transportation nodes, one of which is the station, for MSME actors to use. This is in line with the request of the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, that public infrastructure today has 30% space for MSME actors. Various spots at the Matraman station have been utilized by MSME players for booths for food, drinks, clothing and handicrafts typical of regions in Indonesia. (sf)
