Pauh Lima Station Now Serves Passenger Trains After 44 Years of Vacuuming.

Padang- Officially, the Sibinuang Train Pauh Lima - Naras Relation is operated by the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Class II Padang Railway Engineering Center (BTP) and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Divre II West Sumatra. The implementation of this operation will begin on 1 March 2023.

Since 1979, cement freight trains have been passing by Indarung and Teluk Bayur; this operation symbolizes the first history of passenger rail service.

In addition to the connection's function with Pauh Lima, one station—the previously inactive Pasar Usang Station—was also added.

According to Padang Supandi, the head of BTP Class II, the addition of this service was made to improve transportation services for the people of West Sumatra.

"Previously, the Sibinuang train service operated just as far as Padang Station." The service is now extended from Naras Station to Pauh Lima Station. And vice versa," Supandi stated in a statement released on Wednesday 1 March 2023.

Furthermore, he stated that the extension of the Sibinuang train is an instruction from Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi and a manifestation of DJKA's commitment to improving services to the people of West Sumatra through BTP Padang, given the high mobility of people to and from Pauh Lima.

"This is an instruction from the Minister of Transportation for train service to Pauh Lima Station in 2021." Because the Pauh Lima region is close to the university and industrial sector, this cannot be isolated from the community's great mobility," Supandi remarked.

Previously, in 2022, BTP Padang upgraded its railroad infrastructure, beginning with the stations at Pariaman, Cimparuh, Pasar Usang, Lubuk Buaya, Air Tawar, and Alai. This year, BTP Padang will renovate the stations at Pauh Lima and Kampung Juar.

"It is expected that this operation will increase public interest in using trains, as well as the occupancy of the Sibinuang train as public transportation." Not only that, but also trains might become the community's primary source of transportation in the future, reducing congestion in West Sumatra," Supandi said.

Sofan Hidayah, Vice President of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Divre II West Sumatra, stated that the Sibinuang train offers train journeys with the Pauh Lima - Naras Station (PP) link, or that the whole travel distance for one trip is around 75 kilometers.
Please be aware that not all Sibinuang train journeys currently accommodate passenger arrival and departure at Pauh Lima Station. As a result, it is predicted that train passengers will be aware of the most recent Sibinuang train departure schedule or will check immediately using the KAI Access program.

"Trains using the Sibinuang series provide 424 seats for B2A, B3A, B6A, B7A, B34A, and 340 seats for B1A, B4A, B5A, and B8A. The ticket price is Rp 5,000," Sofan said.
For your information, the Andalas University Campus (UNAND) is adjacent to the Pauh Lima Station. It is predicted that the strengthening of the connection and the establishment of this station would benefit the general public as well as students who wish to go to both school and the city center.
