BTP Padang Conducts Geometry Inspection of Active Railways

Padang-The Padang Class II Railway Engineering Centre conducts Geometry Inspection activities for active railway lines in its working area. This activity is carried out to monitor the physical condition of the tracks and to ensure the safety and comfort of railway travel.

This is done based on the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia No. PM 36 of 2022 on the Organisation and Work Procedures of the Railway Engineering Centre, the Railway Infrastructure Section, which has the task of supervising the operation and maintenance of railway infrastructure activities, ensuring that all activities related to the operation and maintenance of railway infrastructure are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.

In activities that focus on the viability of railway infrastructure, accelerometers are used in railway measurements to help monitor rail conditions in real time. They can also provide useful data for railway maintenance and repair.

The sensor on the accelerometer used is able to detect anomalous vibrations such as rail deformation, surface unevenness, and whether the rail bed is in poor condition.

It is well known that excessive deformation causes the geometry of the track to become misaligned and leads to significant wear between rail components.

Ensuring the safety of rail travel is very important as it has a direct impact on the safety of rail passengers, rail operations, and society in general," said BTP Padang Head Endang Setiawan in his statement.
