Safety Factor is the Reason Padang BTP Provides Three JPOs in West Sumatra

Padang - The Padang Class II Railway Engineering Centre is committed to improving public safety at level crossings as the number of train accidents in West Sumatra is still high. One of BTP Padang's safety improvements is the provision of three pedestrian overpasses (JPO) located in Pariaman City, Pasar Usang and Alai.

In recent years, Pariaman Station has been equipped with a JPO to facilitate the movement of the surrounding community to Gandoriah Beach, ensuring the safety and comfort of the community as well as the trains. Similarly, Alai station will be completed in 2023 with a JPO to make it easier for people to cross the crossing.

Unlike the previous two stations where the JPO was designed for pedestrians only, BTP Padang designed the JPO at Pasar Usang station to be used by motorcycles as well. In this way, it can reduce the risk and increase the safety of motorcyclists by providing a dedicated lane for motorcycles while reducing traffic problems such as congestion.

The construction of JPOs as railway infrastructure is one of the initiatives to improve pedestrian safety and comfort undertaken by the Indonesian Ministry of Transport through the Directorate General of Railways.

We hope that the safety improvements we are making can be properly used by the community by not damaging them," said BTP Padang Head Endang Setiawan.
