GIVE EDUCATION TO STUDENTS, ENCOURAGE THEM TO TAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

On Wednesday, 13 December 2023, the South Sumatra Light Railway Management Center (BPKARSS) paid a visit to SDN 90 Palembang. 150 students were present in the fourth-grade classroom, accompanied by teachers who listened intently to the explanation from BPKARSS.

The Kriss Goes To School activity began at 8:00 a.m. It started with an overview of South Sumatra's light rail transit (LRT). Akhmad Ipandy, the activity speaker, began the presentation by discussing the number of trains, the start of train operations, and the Human Resources (HR) that drive them.

"What is the name of this, kids?" Ipandy asked the students, pointing to a photo of the train driver. The students' excitement and happiness were heightened when the South Sumatra LRT mascot joined in on the fun. "His name is Kriss. "It stands for Kereta Ringan Sumatera Selatan (South Sumatra Light Train)," he explained to the participants' yells.

According to Ipandy, children were not only taught about the South Sumatra LRT during the activity. "However, we also ask them to play," he added. One of them is male students drawing a line to form a tunnel. Following that, the female students built the train.

The students walked towards the tunnel one by one, accompanied by the driver, while singing the song Naik Kereta Api. This is repeated three times. "I saw that they were happy. That is what we want to foster in them too. That learning should not be stressful. "It should be fun," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of BPKARSS stated that the program aims not only to reduce air pollution but also to educate the younger generation about their critical role in environmental preservation. Students were invited to learn about the advantages of using public transportation, such as the LRT, which can help to reduce congestion and greenhouse gas emissions while also supporting sustainable urban development.

He also revealed that the students were very enthusiastic about this program. "Taking students on the LRT is a very rewarding experience." "They learn not only about public transportation, but also about how their small daily decisions can contribute to environmental conservation," Rode said.

BPKARSS will visit many schools in the future. The goal is to ensure the success of the National Movement to Restore Public Transportation (GNKAU).
