The Evacuation of Train Accident in Bandung Continues by Joint Team

Bandung (05/01) - The Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation is deeply concerned and mourned the train accident that occurred in Cikuya District, Cicalengka, Bandung, on the Cicalengka-Haurpugur KM 181+700 crossing on 5 January 2024 at 06.03 WIB. The incident involved Turangga train (KA Plb 65A) and Bandung Raya Commuterline train (KA 350) and resulted in casualties.

Director General of Railways, Risal Wasal said that the evacuation process continues to be carried out by DJKA together with KAI and related parties with the priority of handling the affected victims. "We have sent joint officers, crane facilities and auxiliary facilities from Kiaracondong Station and Solo Balapan Station which are currently at the location to assist the evacuation process," Risal said on Thursday (05/01) in Bandung. 

Until date, the death toll has been reported as four people, with 37 injured and no fatalities on the passenger side. The dead included one driver, one assistant driver, one security officer at Cimekar Station, and one Turangga train attendant. Meanwhile, the deceased and injured individuals have been transported to Cicalengka Regional Hospital, AMC Hospital, and Edelweiss Hospital for further treatment.

The incident comprised a sequence of Turangga trains consisting of 1 locomotive (CC 206 1505), 8 passenger trains, 1 dining car, and 1 generator train, as well as Bandung Raya Commuterline trains consisting of 1 locomotive (CC 201 7717), 7 passenger trains, and one generator train. Each train carried 287 passengers and 7 train crew members (Turangga train) or 191 passengers and 7 train crew members (Bandung Raya CL train).

As a result of this occurrence, the train travel schedules had to be adjusted, and prospective passengers are expected to check the operator's information channel for regular train schedule changes. "We apologize for this incident and will make efforts so that train services can return to normal," he said.

Furthermore, Risal ensured that the Ministry of Transportation through DJKA and KNKT together with KAI and related parties will conduct further investigations and investigations to find out the cause of this incident. "Hopefully the cause of the incident will soon be known so that we can prevent it from happening again," Risal concluded. (DA/HJA)
