The Directorate General of Railways as the regulator of railway transportation carries out the functions of regulating, controlling, and supervising the operation of railways and carrying out the development of railway infrastructure according to priorities as stated in the 2020-2024 Strategic Plan. The implementation and construction of the railway is carried out with the aim of realizing reliable and competitive mass transportation so that it is expected to be able to overcome transportation problems both in urban areas and between cities.

In carrying out the duties and functions of the Directorate General of Railways, there are program performance indicators that become a benchmark for success/failure in carrying out the role as a railway transport regulator. The achievement of program performance indicators is periodically monitored in an effort to realize the implementation of the Performance Accountability System for Government Agencies.

The implementation of monitoring performance achievements is stated in the quarterly performance monitoring report which is a report on the realization of performance in the quarterly period (3 months) against the implementation of performance targets that have been set through the 2022 Performance Agreement. In addition to knowing performance achievements, constraints/problems are also identified so that efforts can be made to overcome problems and improve performance in the next period.
