Ministry of Transportation's PPSDMPD Conducted Survey, Seeks Input on Future Personnel Development

Palembang, 8 October 2024- The Ministry of Transportation's PPSDMPD is working to improve the quality of human resources in the land transportation sector, especially railways. PPSDMPD visited and interviewed people at the South Sumatra Light Rail Transit (LRT) to analyse positions. This took place over several days and involved 24 people from different positions in the South Sumatra LRT. They gave input on future staffing development.

This visit is to evaluate the structure and HR needs of South Sumatra LRT. This is important because it supports the mobility of people in Palembang and its surroundings. South Sumatra LRT is one of the first modern modes of transportation to be operated outside Java. It plays a key role in supporting sustainable transportation programs. This means that reliable and structured human resources are needed to maintain service and operational quality.

PPSDMPD interviewed 24 people from different positions at South Sumatra LRT. These people were technical staff, operators, and managers. The interviews indicated problems in the field, the need for training, and ways to improve the staffing structure.

Some inputs say we need to improve technical skills for light rail operations and train managers and leaders. We also need to review performance and appraisal systems to make work more competitive and productive.

This interview will help PPSDMPD plan future HR development, especially in mass transport. PPSDMPD Head of Training Syafek Jamhari said this is part of a series of evaluations in Indonesia's land transport sector. 'We want to make sure that people working in transport have the right skills for the job, especially with new technology like LRT. We also want to help people develop the right skills to improve public services,' he said.

Syafek added that the evaluation was also carried out to prepare for new developments in mass transportation, where technology is advancing and the need for digital and technical skills is growing. PPSDMPD will continue to improve how it manages human resources in this sector, with the hope of increasing efficiency and the quality of service to the community.

The South Sumatra LRT is a key transport project in the region. It opened in 2018 and connects the airport to Jakabaring Sport City. It is a main form of transport for locals and a pilot project for light rail outside Java.

With input from the employees who participated in the interviews, it is hoped that the staffing structure at South Sumatra LRT can continue to be improved and adapted to technological developments and operational needs. One of the main focuses highlighted was the importance of continuous training, both in technical aspects such as LRT maintenance and operations as well as in non-technical aspects such as customer service and management.
