The Strategic Plan (Renstra) of the North Sumatra Railways Engineering Office for 2020–2024 was prepared with reference to the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJM), which is a planning document for a period of 5 (five) years and carries out the mandate of Law Number 25 Year 2004 concerning the National Development Planning System. The Strategic Plan of the North Sumatra Railways Engineering Center for 2020-2024 contains targets, policy directions, strategies, programs, activities, targets and indicators according to the tasks and functions of the North Sumatra Railways Engineering Office in developing the transportation sector in Indonesia in the 2020-2024 period.

The Strategic Plan of the North Sumatra Railways Engineering Office 2020-2024 is used as a reference in planning the planning of transportation development within the scope of the Northern Sumatra region covering the Province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, North Sumatra Province, and Riau Province.
