DJKA Speed up the Construction of Krian and Kedinding Flyover to Support the Operation of Mojokerto-Sepanjang Double Line

Jakarta (20/01) - The Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation through the Surabaya Railway Engineering Center (BTP) continues to work on the construction of the Krian and Kedinding Flyover so that it can be finished on target. This is done to support the operation of the Mojokerto-Sepanjang Double Line which has been completed and operated as of 1 December 2023.

Director General of Railways, Risal Wasal said that the two flyovers were built to eliminate level crossings on the Mojokerto-Sepanjang Double Line. "DJKA is always committed to improving the safety, security, and comfort of rail travel, including through the construction of level crossings," Risal said on Saturday, 20 January 2024 in Jakarta.

The level crossings referred to by Risal are crossings between roads and railroad tracks built separately through flyovers or underpasses. The construction of level crossings is an effort made by DJKA to reduce level crossings and reduce the number of accidents involving road and rail transportation modes.

For information, this flyover was built in Krian District, Sidoarjo Regency, and Tarik District, Sidoarjo Regency to replace level crossings with registration numbers JPL 64 and JPL 79. As of 14 January 2024, it can be reported that the construction progress of the Kedinding Flyover (replacing JPL 79) has reached 93,5%, while the Krian Flyover (replacing JPL 64) has reached 96,4%.

The construction of the Krian Fly Over is intended to break the congestion at the Krian Lima Intersection during morning and evening rush hours. "With the operation of the double track, the frequency of trains crossing this intersection will increase, so we feel the need to secure train travel while ensuring the safety of road users through the construction of this flyover," explained Risal.

Meanwhile, the Kedinding Flyover was built to improve train travel safety, while providing safer access to connect Tarik Village and Kedinding Village. Before the construction of this flyover, there was a connecting road between villages located at the Kedinding Station emplacement, potentially endangering train travel and threatening the safety of residents who are active around this crossing.

Regarding the construction of the Mojokerto-Sepanjang Double Line, it can be stated that this double line is part of the construction of the Java South Double Line. In addition to the construction of level crossings, the double track project work includes upgrading the track and rail pads (originally R42 to R54), improving operating facilities (signaling, telecommunications, and electricity), as well as revitalizing station buildings, bridges, and other supporting buildings.

"In general, the construction of the Java Southern Double Line is a form of our commitment to improving the safety, speed, and reliability of railroad services, so we continue to focus on completing this project on other line sections," Risal concluded. (DA/HJA)
