DJKA PUBLIC RELATIONS AND PERWAHUB VISITED DEPOT AND OCC LRT SUMSEL

On Wednesday, 6 December 2023, the Directorate General of Railways' Public Relations (DJKA) and 15 journalists from the Transportation Journalists Association (Perwahub) visited the South Sumatra LRT Depot and OCC (operation control center). They seemed so enthusiastic, and they occasionally invited each of their friends to see the Depot and OCC.

The press visit began at the OCC. Perwahub members entered one by one, watching how the OCC, war management, and monitoring worked. "So, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the South Sumatra LRT management control center." Train movements, electricity, and disturbance monitoring can all be monitored here," said M Rasyid Ridho of the BPKARSS Infrastructure Maintenance and Improvement Section.

Rasyid started explaining the OCC by pointing to the monitor. "For instance, consider this red sign. That is the electrified track. Similarly, the train, CCTV, and the driver's operations can all be seen one by one," he added. From the beginning to the end of the journey, all 13 stations are visible.

Rasyid explained that the OCC has three officers working each shift. "Every day, there are three shifts. So they take turns caring for them," he explained. These three officers will decide what actions to take in the event of disruptions and obstacles. "For example, if there is a strike, the OCC directs the evacuation process." "If there is no order from the OCC, they cannot be evacuated," he explained.

In other words, the OCC is like a watchtower. It accurately monitors train travel. "Because the OCC is designed by the system." So the electricity will never go out," he explained. Even if there is a long power outage, 4 of the 9 substations will support the South Sumatra LRT electricity supply. "So that there is no blackout that prevents the train from running at all." "Unless the 9 die," he explained.

Rasyid revealed that there has never been a serious incident in the operation of the South Sumatra LRT. Even if there is, it can still be handled by the OCC. "It is nothing major. "They usually handle problems like this," he said.

Meanwhile, one of the participants, Syamsudin, inquired about the OCC's efforts in the event of a train breakdown or power outage. Rasyid stated the same thing, saying that the nature of the problem can be overcome with strong OCC control and adequate preparation of electricity reserves.

Syamsudin admitted that the OCC owned by South Sumatra LRT amazed him as far as the eye could see. This was his first opportunity to learn about centralized train system control. "I am not sure if the Jakarta LRT or the Jadodebek LRT are like this." "However, this is quite sophisticated," he added. Syam expects the government to continue developing more reliable and up-to-date railroad controls.
