SUKABUMI – In preparation for the double track operation across Bogor – Sukabumi, the Directorate General of Railways through the Class I Railway Engineering Center for the Western Java Region (BTP Jabar) together with the Department of Transportation Sukabumi Regency, as well as the local Muspika and Muspida closed the unofficial level crossing at JPL 18 Tenjo Ayu Street, Cicurug Thursday (8/9).

"The closure of this unofficial level crossing is already on the agenda because a double track operation will soon be carried out," said Fitri Antara, Head of Traffic, Facilities and Safety of West Java BTP.

The closure of the level crossing was due to the construction of overpasses and underpasses in the area. Fitri further explained that there are a total of 70 level crossings that need to be managed in Sukabumi Regency.

"This closure is an effort by the government to anticipate accidents, so it is necessary to close the road access that is no longer functioning," explained Fitri.

The closure of the unofficial level crossing is carried out in accordance with Law no. 23 of 2007 concerning Railways, which explains that railroad crossings should no longer be on the same plot as the highway.
