DJKA ADOPTS BETAWI CULTURE IN DEVELOPING TANAH ABANG STATION

Jakarta (14/03) - The Director General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation, together with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) and the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta, are accelerating the construction of Tanah Abang Station, which is being developed into the ultimate station with the adoption of Betawi culture. Director General of Railways Risal Wasal announced this on Tuesday (14/03).

For information, Tanah Abang Station will be developed by utilizing an area of 1.6 hectares. The development of Tanah Abang Station was carried out to accommodate the growth of Jabodetabek KRL passengers. According to data collected based on tap in and tap out, the number of passengers entering and exiting Tanah Abang Station reaches more than 36,000 people per day while passengers who transit at this station reach 105,000 people per day.

In the development of Tanah Abang Station, DJKA will work on the construction of station buildings including emplacements, platforms, track arrangement, and train operation facilities. Meanwhile, PT KAI (Persero) will be responsible for arranging the parking area and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will be responsible for arranging the area and access around the station.

"The building area that DJKA will build will be around 1.3 hectares, which will utilize the former Tanah Abang Locomotive Depot," said Risal. Risal said that after the development, the station will be able to serve 80,000 passengers per day and 300,000 transit passengers per day with 4 platforms and 6 active lines.

Risal further explained that the development of Tanah Abang Station will be implemented in three stages. The first phase will include the construction of new station buildings and platforms on the site of the former Tanah Abang Locomotive Depot. The completion of phase I is expected to be done soon, and the new building will be operational by the end of 2023.

Director General of Railways Risal Wasal expressed his hope that the construction of Tanah Abang Station will be completed quickly so that the new facilities can be immediately utilized by the community. "We have learned from past developments and will strive to ensure that the construction of Tanah Abang Station does not disrupt the daily activities of passengers who transit, enter and exit the station," Risal concluded.
