THE 31ST JABODEBEK LRT TRAINSET WAS DELIVERED BY PT INKA, THE DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF RAILWAYS: MUCH MORE ADVANCED THAN OTHER RAILWAY TECHNOLOGY IN INDONESIA

Madiun (14/10) - The Director-General of Railways representing the Minister of Transportation attended the release of the 31st Jabodebek LRT Trainset at PT. INKA Madiun Headquarters on Thursday (14/10). The online and offline activities were attended online by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, and offline by the PT INKA board of directors, PT KAI's board of directors, and Madiun City Government officials.

In the remarks of the Minister of Transportation delivered by the Director-General of Railways Zulfikri, it was said that the Jabodebek LRT project, which is part of the National Strategic Project, is one of the Government's efforts to empower domestic industries. Moreover, this is the second LRT project in Indonesia after the South Sumatra LRT produced by domestic industry through PT. INKA. "There is a sense of satisfaction for us as a community when using transportation facilities which are the work of the nation's children," said Zulfikri.

In line with the spirit conveyed by Zulfikri, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut B. Pandjaitan revealed the importance of the technology transfer process that occurred in the implementation of this project. However, Luhut reminded PT INKA, PT LEN, and all SOEs involved in the production of this series of trains, to continue to test and ensure every detail of production is carried out properly according to international standards. "Thus we can be even more proud to show that our nation is capable of producing trains with advanced technology like this," he continued.

The 31st Jabodebek LRT train series complements the other Jabodebek LRT trainsets that have been delivered since 2019, and at the same time marks the completion of production activities by PT INKA for this project. When operating later, these 31 trainsets will serve the Jabodebek LRT with the formation of each trainset consisting of 6 trains with a maximum operating speed of up to 80 km/hour.

This Jabodebek LRT is the most sophisticated that will operate in Indonesia because it is equipped with high technology. "By adopting Grade of Automation (GOA) level 3 train technology, later this train can move without needing to be controlled by a machinist," explained Zulfikri. The level of technology is certainly higher than the train technology used on the South Sumatra LRT or Jakarta MRT.

Furthermore, Zulfikri explained that apart from being able to be controlled without a crew, the adoption of GoA 3 technology will also allow Jabodebek LRT operations to be carried out on time with a headway of less than 3 minutes. "Thus, the public can experience more convenient and timely public transportation, in line with the Government's commitment to always improve public transportation services," Zulfikri continued.

In total there are 186 cars produced by PT INKA for this project. Currently, the entire series of trains that have arrived in Jakarta are currently undergoing a series of trials before finally being operationalized in 2022. “The use of this new technology requires a more complex process in the integration of facilities and infrastructure systems. Of course, we both hope that the entire trial process will go well so that the operational target of the Jabodebek LRT can be achieved," concluded Zulfikri. (HJA/SPN)
