PREPARING ADDITIONAL STAIRS AT MANGGARAI STATION, DJKA RESPONDS TO INPUT FROM RAILWAY ROAD COMMUNITY

Jakarta (20/02) - The Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation is taking measures to address the congestion at Manggarai Station by preparing additional stairs. This was discussed in the "NGOBRAS: Ngobrol Santai tentang Pengembangan Stasiun Manggarai dan Program Motis 2023" event held on Monday (20/02) at the Ministry of Transportation office.

Director General of Railways, Risal Wasal, stated that the mitigation efforts were being carried out to ensure that the station's operations are not disrupted while the development work continues. "It should be understood that the current conditions at Manggarai Station are a result of ongoing construction. Once everything is completed, we believe that the congestion issue will be resolved," said Risal.

Nevertheless, acknowledges the inconvenience experienced by train users at Manggarai Station and recognizes the need to address it immediately. "Let us apologize for the obstacles faced by passengers at Manggarai Station, insya Allah, we will immediately convey solutions to unravel the build-up that often occurs," continued Risal.

The solution and mitigation measures in question are to build additional stairs at the north end of the platform to increase alternative passenger access. In this case, Director of Railway Infrastructure Harno Trimadi said that the presence of additional stairs is expected to unravel the density of passengers.

""We ask for the public's support and prayers so that this additional staircase can be realized as soon as possible, in order to answer the anxiety of train users in making transit at Manggarai Station," said Harno.

In addition, Harno emphasized that DJKA is actively seeking input from the railway enthusiast community in order to gather feedback on the development of Manggarai Station. "We have also involved colleagues with disabilities to jointly evaluate the development of Manggarai Station so that it can be more inclusive and comfortable for use by all groups," said Harno.

Regarding the density of passengers at the station complained about by the public, Head of the Jakarta Railway Engineering Center Rode Paulus said that the density occurs only at certain hours. "If seen directly in the field, the density does not occur as reported on social media. It is true that the platform is a bit crowded when the train arrives but it will soon unravel, not stuck," said Rode.

In his closing remarks, Rode urged the public to contribute in supporting and maintaining the newly built facilities at Manggarai Station. "We also invite all of our colleagues to remind each other and be careful, especially when stepping out of the train so that no more passengers fall into the platform gap," said Rode.(HJA)
