Inspecting East Bekasi Station, Minister of Transportation Urges Passengers to Always Obey The Health Protocols

Bekasi — To ensure the safety and security of Commuter line users during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi altogether with the Director-General of Railways and the President Director of PT. KAI (Persero) conducted a survey at Bekasi Timur Station on Saturday morning (19/6).

"People's mobilization is indeed the right of the community itself, therefore I ask the President Director of PT KAI to be able to respond to this well, health protocols must still be implemented", said the Minister of Transportation.

Data on the movement of KRL passengers in Jabodetabek shows that there is an increase in the number of passengers reaching 500 thousand per day, from the previous average number of passengers, which was around 400 thousand per day. For this reason, the Minister of Transportation has requested PT. KAI to conduct random checks with Covid-19 virus detection tools, Genose C-19, and Rapid Antigen tests for prospective train passengers, especially Commuter train.

"I also strongly recommend to all commuter line passengers who are not in their healthiest state but have an urgent matter to attend, can be wise to postpone the journey to their destination, so the spread of Covid-19 can be minimized," said Minister of Transportation to all prospective passengers of KRL Commuter line.

On that occasion, the Minister of Transportation also inspected a 2.6 hectare land around the East Bekasi Station area, where the TOD (Transit Oriented Development) project is planned with the PPP scheme. This project has also been included in the RPJP of the Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Railways, which in the future will provide TOD as a residential, office, or commercial area at a strategic point of the railway node in Jabodetabek.

"If we can make good use of railway node points, the movement of people will be much more efficient", concluded the Ministry of Transportation. (SPN/JM/MIR)
