On Wednesday, 29 November 2023, 53 students from Universitas Indo Global Mandiri participated in an academic visit to LRT South Sumatra. This activity was held to improve students' insights and knowledge about public transportation services, as well as to provide hands-on experience with government communication in the public sector.

Activities like this are part of the Government Communication course, according to Isabella, S.IP., M.Si, an accompanying lecturer who participated in this visit. "Usually the students will be exposed to how government communication in the public sector is carried out," she said. According to Isabella, hands-on experiences like this academic visit give students a better understanding of how theories learned in class are put into practice.

Indo Global Mandiri University chose the South Sumatra Light Railway Management Center as the location for this year's academic visit. South Sumatra LRT was chosen as the site of the visit because it is one of the city's developing public transportation projects.

"Hopefully, by participating in this activity, students will gain knowledge in the field of public speaking," Isabella added. She explained that the ability to speak in public is critical in world government, particularly when dealing with the larger community. This visit is expected to provide students with opportunities to practice and improve their public speaking skills.

Students were not only given explanations about the technical operations of the LRT during the visit but they were also invited to have direct discussions with managers and workers in the field. This provided them with a more comprehensive understanding of the challenges and advantages of implementing a public transportation project such as LRT.

As a result, this academic visit was not only a valuable field experience for Government Science students, but also an important component of their education, which aims to develop future leaders who are prepared to face challenges in the government sector and society.
