On Saturday, 12 October 2022, at the Palembang Icon Mall Parking Lot, the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the South Sumatra Light Railway Management Center (BPKARSS) on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia officially opened five (5) new Angkot Feeder LRT corridors. The launch event occurred with the National Movement Back to Palembang Public Transport, which was coordinated by the Directorate General of Land Transportation and held concurrently in numerous Indonesian cities.

"After June 2022, the Minister of Transportation, along with the Governor of South Sumatra and the Mayor of Palembang, inaugurated two new LRT feeder angkot corridors: the Talang Kelapa - Talang Buruk Route via Asrama Haji and the Asrama Haji Station - Sematang Borang Route. Today, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Land Transportation, we are pleased to announce the expansion of our LRT feeder network with the addition of five new corridors," stated Mohamad Risal Wasal, Acting Director General of Railways.

"These five (5) new corridors are the first route of Polresta Station - OPI Comp, second route of RSUD Station - Sukawinatan, third route of Hajj Dormitory Station - Talang Betutu, fourth route of DJKA Station - Plaju Market Terminal, and the fifth route of Kamboja Stadium - Bukit Siguntang". Risal added.

Risal stated that the funding for the operations of all five new angkot feeder LRT corridors was obtained from the generated revenue of the South Sumatra LRT system. "The South Sumatra LRT has been generating revenue through ticket sales and asset utilization, including advertising and other means. With this initiative, the government aims to reinvest the revenue generated by the South Sumatra LRT back into the community through the provision of this angkot feeder service," Risal explained.

Risal further shared important information with the public, stating, "I would like to inform everyone that the five LRT feeder angkot corridors will be completely free of charge, priced at Rp. 0, - until the end of December 2022. We kindly urge the public to take full advantage of these facilities provided by the government. The only requirement is to carry an electronic money card issued by the National Bank, then simply tap it on the available payment devices, and the public can enjoy safe and comfortable transportation services."

Risal expressed the commitment of the South Sumatra LRT to constantly innovate its services with the aim of boosting passenger occupancy. He shared that as of the first week of December 2022, the number of South Sumatra LRT passengers had nearly reached 2.8 million. The current trend indicates an average of 8,000 passengers on weekdays and 12,000 passengers on Saturdays and Sundays.
