BPKARSS achieves the title of the cleanest railway infrastructure in the Ministry of Transport, maximising cleanliness of platforms, stations and accessibility
The South Sumatra Light Railway Management Centre (BPKARSS) has made another proud achievement by winning the title of the cleanest railway infrastructure in the Ministry of Transportation. The award was presented at an annual event organised by the Ministry of Transportation in Jakarta on Friday, 6 September 2024, in recognition of its efforts to maintain the cleanliness and comfort of public transport in Indonesia. The award also demonstrates South Sumatra LRT's commitment to providing the best service to the community, especially in terms of platform and station cleanliness and accessibility for passengers.
Obtaining the title of cleanest railway infrastructure was not easy. Since the start of operations in 2018, the South Sumatra LRT Management Centre has set high standards for cleanliness and facility maintenance. Cleanliness is one of the main priorities, given the high intensity of LRT use by the people of Palembang and surrounding areas on a daily basis.
The entire station area, from platforms to toilets to waiting rooms, is regularly cleaned. In addition, South Sumatra LRT stations are equipped with environmentally friendly facilities such as segregated waste bins to support sustainable waste management programs. Cleaners are always on standby to ensure that there is no accumulation of rubbish and that all public areas are free from dirt.
We are committed to maintaining cleanliness and comfort because it is not only about the company's image but also about the quality of life of the people who use our services every day," said BPKARSS Manager Rode Paulus.
The platforms and stations of the South Sumatra LRT receive special attention in terms of cleanliness. As a place where passengers wait and move, the platform is always maintained to keep it clean and free of litter. The manager of the South Sumatra LRT has implemented a regular daily cleaning system, both before operation, during operation, and after operation.
In addition, the stations are also strictly maintained in terms of air and noise cleanliness to ensure a comfortable environment for service users. Seats on platforms are always kept clean, and public toilets at each station are also routinely cleaned to ensure the comfort of users, both locals and tourists coming to Palembang.
As well as focusing on cleanliness, the South Sumatra LRT also maximises accessibility for all groups, including people with disabilities, the elderly, and passengers with special needs. South Sumatra LRT's efforts to provide accessible and convenient transportation for all include dedicated wheelchair ramps, automatic doors with easy access, and clear signage.
Attention is also paid to the cleanliness of these access points. Wheelchair ramps, for example, are regularly cleaned and maintained to ensure user comfort and safety. With a clean environment and accessible facilities, the South Sumatra LRT has set an example for other railway infrastructures in terms of providing quality and inclusive services.
This award is not only a testament to the hard work that has been done but also a motivation for the South Sumatra LRT Management Centre to continue to improve service quality. The head of the South Sumatra LRT Management Centre emphasised that this achievement was the result of the cooperation of all parties, from management to the field staff, who always work hard to ensure cleanliness and comfort at each station.
