Almost a Century on Halt, Naras-Sungai Limau Line Reactivated

Padang-The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) through the Class II Padang Railway Engineering Center (BTP) reactivated the Naras-Sungai Limau railway line which had been dead for almost a century. The reactivation of this 7.5-kilometer line has reached the reordering stage.

At the end of 2023, BTP Padang has carried out tracking activities for tracing surveys along the route to determine the point or boundary where the railroad will be built to Sungai Limau, Padang Pariaman Regency.

"We have started to manage the land and have also surveyed affected buildings. Hopefully, this curbing will run smoothly without significant obstacles," said the Head of BTP Padang, Endang Setiawan in his statement.

On a different occasion, the Land Commitment Making Officer (PPK), Sutan Ade Alfiano said that this year a survey had also been carried out to find out the buildings affected by the reactivation of the Naras-Sungai Limau route.

"We have conducted a phase one survey along the 4 kilometers of the line that will be reactivated and around 4.500 m2 of buildings will be affected, including school buildings and houses," said Mr. Sutan.

He said that at this stage of land acquisition, it is necessary to approach and socialize persuasively to the affected communities considering that there are quite a lot of buildings affected.

"Moreover, not a few people also have certificates for their buildings that have been occupied for a long time, so this is a challenge in the land control process," he added.

For your information, the Lubuk Alung-Naras-Sungai Limau railway line used to connect Lubuk ALung Station and Naras Station. The line to Sungai Limau has been dead since 1927. (RAH)
