Strengthening Collaboration to Improve Safety at Level Crossings

Padang - Level crossing safety is critical to the transportation system because they are frequently high-risk areas for accidents involving trains, pedestrians, and other road users. One critical step toward addressing this issue is to improve synergy and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

"This synergy is essential to help us collaborate more effectively and enhance safety at level crossings," said Hendrialdi, Head of BTP Padang, in a statement.

Currently, BTP Padang is focusing on several key areas, the most pressing of which is improving safety at level crossings. This is due to the continued presence of illegal crossings that are not registered, as well as road users' lack of discipline in adhering to traffic rules.

A recent meeting with the Heads of the Transportation Departments (Dishub) from various municipalities and districts along the railway lines—such as Dishub Kota Padang, Dishub Kota Pariaman, and Dishub Kabupaten Padang Pariaman—was held to discuss the most effective mechanisms for reporting accidents at level crossings and to update the status of these crossings in the three regions.

Establishing good relationships with relevant stakeholders is crucial, as local governments are more familiar with the conditions in their respective areas. “Our vision and mission for safety are aligned, and we will carry out our roles under our respective authorities,” added Hendrialdi.

It is hoped that, as a result of this meeting, communication and cooperation among stakeholders will improve, leading to the achievement of zero accidents at level crossings.
